Question:

What’s the difference between a midface lift and a lower facelift? Do most people need both?

Answer:

A midface lift addresses the cheek region and a lower facelift treats the jawline and neck.  However, a lower facelift can provide some cheek elevation, depending on the technique.  Most people require lower facelift procedures.  I personally rarely perform midface lifts.

Question:

I am a 41 year old man looking to get a face lift. I have done some research on face lifts and was wondering about how the procedure works. Is there anything I should know before having the operation?

Answer:

At forty-one, you are very young to be thinking about this procedure. Unless you have an extraordinarily amount of skin laxity and sagging of your jaw line and/or neck, I would encourage you to delay this surgery for several years if possible. Nevertheless, in male patients, it is a similar procedure as in females but the incisions around the ears are contoured close to the sideburns to hide them better. Also, if you have a vigorous job, I would plan at least three weeks before strenuous activity. Male patients often to try to resume normal activity too early, which can lead to excessive scarring around the ears.
